One of the most popular activities to celebrate a year of learning with Superkids is to host a character dress-up day. Invite your students to come to school or your virtual meeting dressed as their favorite character.
If you are planning to host a character dress-up day, here is a fun invitation you can send home to give families a heads-up about the special event.

Take your kiddos outside to practice their encoding and spelling skills during the Daily Routine. All you will need is some space on a sidewalk, some chalk, and the warm sunshine!
Another sunny option is to host an outdoor reading party! We are sure your students have their personal favorite Superkids book or magazine. Allow each student to select a favorite or two and head outside for some socially distanced decoding in the daylight.

Why not put on a Superkids show to end the year? The Glum Princess (Kindergarten, Unit 21), The Contest (First Grade, Unit 9), The Spingle Spangle Talent Show (First Grade, Unit 9), and We Need Trees! (Second Grade, Unit 7) all offer the perfect opportunity to showcase your students’ talents while connecting to text they have read in class.
Teaching from home? Don’t let that stop you! Check out this amazing performance of The Glum Princess all done remotely!

Superkids Activity Day: Similar to the typical “Field Day,” this special day connects common sports and other activities to the Superkids characters. Some fun ideas we have seen to get kids moving are: Catch with Cass, Golf with Golly, Fish with Frits, Dance Party with Doc, Soccer with Sal, and Limbo with Lily.
Fix Up the Bus: One creative school “borrowed” a school bus for their field day. The students were given the opportunity to paint a real bus! Tip: As the day ends, the students can wash and “fix up” the bus just like the Superkids did!
Story Celebration Day: At the end of the year, have your students vote for their favorite Superkids stories. Spend a whole day celebrating with activities tied to each of their favorites. Second-grade teacher Kimberly Marie Darnell shared how her class did it:
“Students celebrated a wonderful year of reading, spelling, and writing with Superkids by dressing as their favorite characters. They had a day full of activities that celebrated their favorite stories. They practiced the squat shot from the story The Shrimp Shot, snuggled their favorite stuffed animals from the story Bailey Bear, frosted and enjoyed chocolate chip cookies from the stories No Cupcakes and Enjoy the Cookie, and decorated popcorn cups from the story And the Winner Is… .”

Many teachers end the year with an award ceremony or even an official graduation. Tying in The Superkids Reading Program can commemorate a year of progress and celebrate that your class had fun while learning to read! Students can sing their favorite songs, read aloud a published piece of writing about the characters, and earn a special certificate for a job well done. Check out the freebie below for a graduation certificate that is sure to make your students smile.

In the last few weeks, Zaner-Bloser announced plans to sunset the © 2015 edition of Superkids. We mailed this letter to administrators in schools and districts using the older edition.
Because we value Superkids schools and teachers and believe so much in the program, we are providing considerable advance notice of the timeline to help in planning the transition to the newer edition, The Superkids Reading Program © 2017.
Refer to the letter for more information, including dates, and feel free to contact your local sales consultant to begin the transition process. We can’t wait to welcome everyone to the newer edition!
