As the weather warms and the sun is shining, it’s a challenge to resist the urge to head outside. Try taking your class outdoors to practice their encoding and spelling skills during the Daily Routine. All you will need is some space on a sidewalk, chalk, and a sunny day.
Another bright option is to host an outdoor reading party. Allow your students to select a favorite Superkids book or magazine and then head outside for some decoding in the daylight!

Many schools organize a Superkids performance for families and other classrooms to end the year. The Glum Princess (Kindergarten, Unit 21), The Contest (First Grade, Unit 8), and We Need Trees (Second Grade, Unit 7) all offer the perfect opportunity to showcase your students’ talents while connecting to the text they have read in class.
Some Superkids teachers have shared that they will have their class write their own play (just like the Superkids) through shared writing.

One of the most popular activities to celebrate a year of learning with Superkids is to host a character dress-up day. Invite your students to come to school dressed as their favorite character. Here is a fun invitation you can send home to give families a heads-up about the special event.

These super fun ideas shared by Superkids schools can be done in a station format during one special day, or you can offer one activity each day during the last weeks of school.

Big Box Fix-Up
Â
Allow groups of students to get creative while enjoying a Big Box Fix Up just like the Superkids! Children can write clues and invite friends from another class to guess what they have created before their fancy new box is revealed!
It is fast. But it is not a car. It has wings. But it is not a bird. It can fly. But it is not a kite. Can you tell?

Oswald’s Odd Animals
Â
Celebrate Oswald by creating odd animals! Simply supply students with various craft materials and let their imaginations take-off!

Golly’s Garden
Â
Supply each child with a small cup, soil, seeds, a spoon, and water. Allow children to plant their personal Golly garden. When finished planting, insert a plant label stick adorned with a picture of our favorite furry friend!

Alf’s Adventure Day
Â
Create fun binoculars using paper towel tubes and take your kiddos on a nature walk. Or, create an organized scavenger hunt! Some teachers will ask parents to share and set-up tents for students to enjoy as they partner read Superkids stories.

Building With Doc
Â
Connect your STEM activities to Superkids! Students can use existing classroom materials to invent and build items for the characters. Examples of items to create are a dog house for Golly, a bridge for Alf to safely cross, or a tool hanger for Doc’s shop!

Sal’s Sports Day
Â
Like a typical field day, this special event connects common sports and activities to the Superkids characters. Below are some fun ideas to get your class of Superkids moving!
•    Catch with Cass
•    Golf with Golly
•    Fish with Frits
•    Dance Party with Doc
•    Soccer with Sal
•    Limbo with Lily

Fix It With Frits
Â
Students stretch their problem-solving muscles when they are asked to work together to assemble a boat. When they have successfully created the boat, they can go on an imaginary fishing adventure with Frits!

Ettabetta’s Game Day
Â
Celebrate Ettabetta with a planned Game Day for the class. Children are asked to bring games from home and they are responsible for teaching their classmates how to play. You can also introduce games they may not know—like jacks!
|
Â
|
|
    Â
|
Hustle, Hustle, Hurry!
Â
Inspired by Hot Rod, students build their very own hot rods to race around the gym. They make a pit stop to visit older students situated at different locations, each holding a sentence. Once the sentences are correctly read, the hot rods race on to the checkered flag finish line!

Many teachers end the year with an award ceremony or even an official graduation. Tying in The Superkids Reading Program can commemorate a year of progress and celebrate that your class had fun while learning to read! Students can sing their favorite songs, read aloud a published piece of writing about the characters, and earn a special graduation certificate for a job well-done.
