Days 1–3: Unlock the Meaning
Students read a passage containing 10 high-value Tier Two words related to the unit theme. Then they learn to use a new context clues strategy to unlock word meanings. In this example, the strategy is to look for the location or setting.
Day 4: Process
Students process new words by interacting with them multiple times in activities that reinforce meanings.
Day 5: Apply
Students apply new words through activities that access higher-level thinking skills.
