Learn About Using Reading Assessments to Better Inform Instruction and Learning
Assessment for Learning: The Science of Screening
Early intervention for reading difficulties is critical for students’ future success. In this two-part on-demand webinar, we explore the “what” and “why” of using reading assessments for learning and hear real-world lessons from the field.
First Angela Cammarata examines the connection between what we teach and what we assess, the different types of reading assessments that support students’ reading development, and how to use the accumulating data to inform instruction within a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) framework. She also unpacks how certain types of assessment can be used to assess the subskills of Scarborough’s Reading Rope to inform instruction and learning.
Following her presentation, Angela Cammarata facilitates an instructive discussion with superintendent and principal Angie Hanlin. Viewers get to learn about Ms. Hanlin’s experience with evidence-based assessments and their impact on progress and data-informed instruction. They discuss the transformation process Ms. Hanlin helped lead at her previous district, New Madrid County R-1 School District in Missouri, and how she has continued her mission-driven work leading the School District of Thorp in Wisconsin.
