Building Fact Fluency Strategies Overview

Each of the strategies (Addition & Subtraction) and factors (Multiplication & Division) covered in the Building Fact Fluency toolkits is taught through three real-world contexts.

Rich Conversation and Mathematical Thinking—Courtesy of Lesson Strings

Contexts are supported by clusters of related activities, tasks, and games called Lesson Strings. Here’s a look at just three of the numerous routines, tasks, and games that make up the string of lessons for each context and how the lesson concepts progress from concrete contexts to abstract numbers.

Over the course of a Lesson String, students will discuss vibrant images using both informal and mathematical language as they mathematize situations. This allows students to see how number facts connect to a wide variety of mathematical situations and problem types.
