Kickstart: Number Sense for Targeted Math Intervention

Kickstart: Number Sense is a small-group math intervention program that helps students understand and work with numbers in a flexible and intuitive way.

When students have good number sense, they can visualize numbers, compute mentally, perform basic operations with automaticity, take numbers apart and put them back together in different ways, and relate numbers to real-life problems in the everyday world.

Using Kickstart: Number Sense, students advance to proficiency in skills prerequisite for K–3 core curricula in as little as 60 days.

Kickstart: Number Sense At a Glance

The systematic, explicit instruction in Kickstart: Number Sense progresses from concrete to representational to abstract thinking about whole numbers.

Physical movement, partner talk, songs, games, and hands-on materials in each 20-minute lesson inspire students to actively participate.

  • Ready-to-use kits contain all materials needed for K–3 skills intervention for six students.

  • Scripted lessons can be led by any adult with minimal preparation.

  • Progress monitoring tools help teachers quickly gauge and respond to students’ skill development.

  • All print materials available in English or Spanish.
