Instructional Plan

In grades 2–3, each unit includes two sources, and in grades 4–6, each unit includes three sources.

Read Closely

Students read each selection twice and then:

  1. Determine the main idea
  2. Take notes and cite evidence

Think Deeply

Students answer questions using information from the selection to check their comprehension. They will also analyze what the author had to say using evidence from the text to support their answers.

Write Intelligently

Students use information from the different sources they’ve examined to write one or more Narrative, Informative/Explanatory, or Opinion pieces using the writing prompt, graphic organizer, and rubric provided in the text.
