I Read to Write at a Glance
Each unit in I Read to Write follows the same instructional plan and guides students to
- read from original sources.
- think critically and analytically.
- write to multiple sources from across the curriculum.
Instructional Plan
In grades 2–3, each unit includes two sources, and in grades 4–6, each unit includes three sources.
Read Closely
Students read each selection twice and then:
- Determine the main idea
- Take notes and cite evidence
Think Deeply
Students answer questions using information from the selection to check their comprehension. They will also analyze what the author had to say using evidence from the text to support their answers.
Write Intelligently
Students use information from the different sources they’ve examined to write one or more Narrative, Informative/Explanatory, or Opinion pieces using the writing prompt, graphic organizer, and rubric provided in the text.
